For the eighth consecutive year since 2001, the Riga City Festival makes the capital turn into a merry hustle and bustle. This year Riga City Festival takes place from August 15 until August 17, offering the residents and guests of the city a comprehensive program of activities with more than 40 scheduled culture and fun events.
The central venue for the festival’s musical programme is Vērmanes Park, where brass bands’ performances, jazz concerts and special concerts for families with children take place. Following an unwritten tradition, also a chess tournament takes place at Vērmanes Park within the framework of the festival.
Various activities are organized also in Riga’s suburbs. A green market takes place at Riga’s Ilguciems suburb, as well as a vehicle parade and fun competitions. Pardaugava suburb marks the 110th anniversary of Arkādijas Park with various artistic performances and activities, lead by actors, artists and even a fortune teller. Bastejkalns suburb turns into a Fairytale Hill, whereas Esplanāde Park is the venue for Giant Board Games.
Riga City Festival features also sporting competitions – at 11th Novembra Embankment basketball and streetball tournaments take place; speedboat, wakeboard and windsurfing competitions take place at River Daugava by Riga Old Town’s embankment.
The festival concludes on August 17, by a fireworks competition.
