FREESTYLE MOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP (FMX) COMING BACK TO LATVIA!!!!

Many spectators still remember the exciting weekend in October, 2007 when for the first time in the Baltic motocross history  the event of FIM Freestyle MX World Championship took place in arena „Riga”. It was not only a serious competition but also a spectacular and unforgetable moto- show two days long that Riga had ever experienced before.

Those two days no one among the thousands of spectators stayed indifferent as the freestlyle motocross is a very active, extreme and exciting motocross which could be described as motocross figure jumping and in its essence is more likely a show than a sport. Last year arena „Riga” in the warm october weekend was crowded and soon after the championship the fans couldn ‘t wait for the next  year 2008 hoping to have the possibility to enjoy the freestyle motocross in live again.

The best news- freestyle motocross world championship (FMX) is coming back and we shall enjoy FIM Freestyle MX Latvia Grand Prix on 25.-26. October in arena „Riga” again.

FMX as an independent sport has a rather short history, however, its development is extremely rapid. FMX shows take place all over the world for several years already but the official FIM (International Motocross Federation) World Championship started in year 2006. and this year is happenning for the third time.

2008. FIM Freestyle MX World Championship has 10 Grand Prix in different countries, Latvia  shall held the 8^th round of Championship when the FMX riders shall meet for the next points.

Each round of FIM Freestyle MX World Championship takes place for 2 days, every day riders compete for the points of the FIM Freestyle MX World Championship.The programme of each day for the spectators is similar, i.e. in Latvia Grand Prix different is only the time of start. Unpredicatable, however, is the result and the riders who shall be the best in the qualifying and get into the final.

Every Grand Prix there are aprox 12 riders participating and in the first part of the contest called qualification they perform the set of jumps and fight for the getting into the final of the day. 6 best riders go to the final and fight for the victory and highest points.

Each rider shows his jumps in a set period of time (all riders in the qualification and 6 best also in the final) and beyond the time another additional jump. In everage every set of jumps consists of some 10 to 16 different jumps. The performance is judged by 5 International Jury Members with points, the sum of which gives the standing in the qualification and also in the final.

In the break there is also Whip and Highest Air contests.

However the spectators have a chance to spend some extra time with riders apart the contest. Every day in FMX Latvia Grand Prix the door of arena „Riga” shall be opened two hours prior the event (i.e. 17.00 on Saturday and 14.00 on Sunday). These two hours fans can meet with FIM Freestyle MX World Championship riders in so called Pit Line zone. The opportunity to get the autograpgh will be also for those coming to the arena just before the begining- in the autograph session held every night right after the contest.
