Exhibition of Russian iconography
On the feast day, honoring Our Lady of Kostroma - on August 29, at 3 p.m. Riga's Museum of Foreign Art opens an exhibition on Russian iconography. The exhibition is the central event of the Days of Russian Culture in Riga, organized in cooperation with the famous Andrey Rublov's Museum of Early Russian Culture and Art and with the Kostroma Art Museum – National Park and Exhibition Center ROSIZO.

The theme of the iconography exhibition is "Our Lady - symbol of altruistic love and never ending mercy".

The exhibition presents icons depicting events from the life of Virgin Mary and contains images of Our Lady that are said to have supernatural healing powers.

The icons were created in the time period between the 16th and 19th century and represent images of Our Lady from Vladimir, Kazan, Korsun, Iversk, Smolensk, Ahtyr, Tihvin and Igorev.

The exhibition will be opened by the head of the Russian Commission of Culture Preservation (Rosokhrankultura) Alexander Kibovsky and one of the most outstanding ancient Russian culture experts - Prof. Genadi Popov. Also representatives of Riga and Kostroma Orthodox Churches will participate in the exhibition's opening ceremony.

It will be open at the Museum of Foreign art until October 26.

Russian Culture Days in Latvia were opened on June 2008, by guest performances in Riga by the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia

As part of the Russian Culture Days, in September Russian contemporary art exhibition "Index-A(rt)R(ussia)T(oday)" will take place at State Art Museum's "Arsenāls" exhibition hall, theater festival "Golden Mask in Latvia" and Russian cinema festival will take place in Riga.
